Well, today did not go as planned. First of all, I was really tired when I had to get up at six. I couldn't sleep more than 45 minutes at a time last night, so I was really groggy when I got in the shower. I managed to get dressed and navigate the trolley and the broad street subway (a first) without any trouble (that's a lie, I had trouble staying awake). I made it to my Americorps interview early. I sat outside the office where the other AC kids were working and got to listen to them talk. They seem like a neat group.
Then I had my interview. It did not go well. I mean, I think I answered everything well, and I think they liked me. I think there's even a decent chance they'll offer the job to me. But I was really uncomfortable while I was talking to them. I didn't feel good about either the AC coordinator or the guy who would be my immediate supervisor. And the job they interviewed me for was not the job I thought they brought me in for. This job is about refurbishing computers and working with students in the technology track of their charter school. That is not a very good fit for me. Their questions were ok, and seemed normal for the type of job I was interviewing for, but the whole experience was just a bit off. If it had been a film, it would have been the part about "how to tell when you're interviewing for the wrong job." And the colors would have been muted, and the angles would have been harsh. And it would not have been happy music playing on the soundtrack.
I left feeling like the whole experience was in direct opposition to what I had expected. I guess in the next few days I'll be able to think more about it, so I'll know what to say if they offer me the job. In the mean time, I came home and sent out more applications. I applied for a couple of jobs at Penn, finally sent my resume to target, and emailed information to a couple of postings on craigslist. If I could find a Barnes and Noble I'd go beg for a job, but hell if I can find a bookstore in this town.
I was supposed to have an interview this afternoon at Victoria's Secret. The manager who was going to interview me called and said she was sick, and tentatively pushed back the interview until tomorrow (if she's feeling better). I hope her being sick won't affect her once we do have the interview, I know I'm not very pleasant when I've been sick.
So, all in all, a little discouraged. On the bright side, played quizzo last night. We didn't win, but if we had answered one question differently then we would have won. I'm ok with not knowing that Jung was the first person to discuss the terms introvert and extrovert. It was still fun to get out and go do trivia. I would play quizzo every day if I knew how to find the right bars. It's a good thing I don't know my way around town. I'd end up an alcoholic just trying to satisfy my trivia addiction.
Also on the bright side: weather has been lovely! Not too hot at all during the days, and downright cool at nights (60's). yay!

Hey Kim, I'm sorry your interview didn't go as well as planned. How'd the VS one go? look for a Barnes and Noble online, the city has got to have one! Thanks for the note today about "Clark Park". That's hilarious. At least you have time to go to parks and enjoy the outdoors and scenary and people playing. I'd trade with ya. I hope things are going better for ya. I pray for you all the time! Miss you much - Kristina
