Sunday

Went to the Philadelphia Museum of Art today. I think I've been spoiled by getting to visit the National Gallery of Art in DC and the Museum of Modern Art in New York in the last couple of months. It is apparently harder to impress me. They did have a respectable collection of Thomas Eakins, which I appreciated. They also had the only two works by Brancusi worth seeing (in the world). They had a sizable collection of the big names...but smaller works by them. There were Monets and Manets and Cezannes and Pissaros and Picassos and Cassatts and Warhols and a large number of Mondrians (but seriously, why have that many Mondrians?! They are all the same thing!). I was also pleasantly surprised to see Duchamp's Nude Descending a Staircase (no. 2).

I was not pleased with their decision to take The Peaceable Kingdom by Hicks off of display. It is one of the only NAME works (i.e. works taught in art history classes) they have in their collection and they've taken it off display indefinitely. I was very excited when I found out they owned it, and am not happy that they aren't sharing.

Limited pictures of the museum: here

On the way back it was really pretty so I took some pictures in the leaves. You can kinda tell I dyed my hair red in some of them.
