Snowflakes and Scarves

I waited nineteen years for my first snow. It was about six years ago, and I still feel the softly sparkling feeling inside when I remember seeing the pure whiteness out a window five hundred miles from here. It was like glitter and white doves with a whisper of peppermint. The peppermint might have been from the Starbucks cup on the desk. I crave peppermint mochas whenever I see snow in a movie.

It's been cool here the last few days. Not nearly cold enough for snow, although last week it was certainly close. But it's been Florida cold. Cold enough for an occasional sweater or scarf, but plenty of snowbirds feel comfortable in shorts. I love this weather, the clear blue skies and chilly breeze. It makes me want to take up biking, with one of those old fashioned bicycles with a basket in the front for some daisies.

It's hard going to class on days like these. Perfect days that beg for people to find a field and watch the clouds. Days that entice you to slip off your shoes and feel the cool grass, to smell the very greenness of the world. I hope this weather stays for a few more days. I hope Emily's wedding on Friday has the benefit of this joy. It would be a beautiful beginning.

You helped make my wedding a beautiful beginning. You are an amazing person who has so many, many talents--hairdresser, photographer, writer, historian, lawyer, bartender, and the best talent of all--friend.

I'd like that on my tombstone, please.
