Live Brave.

I apologize to those of you who read my blog to find out what's going on in my life. Because that's really not why I'm writing this blog. My life is boring in the extreme. Seriously. I go to school, I read, I shop occasionally. I watch a little tv, I cook dinner with friends. That's the extent of my life.

I briefly considered writing about my life, but this is the kind of post you'd get: (title)- "To Catch a Predator: When Twigs Attack" and then three paragraphs about how I'm clumsy and my foot got scratched pretty badly when I was at a picnic at the law school and my foot bled for an hour.

Do you see why I don't post about my life?

Plus, nobody is interested in hearing my clearly brilliant ramblings in real life, so I feel like this blog is an excuse to get all the philosophizing out of my system. Today's ramble:

I watch the tv show Eli Stone. I'm not aware of anyone reading this blog who would not also like it. If you read my blog and DON'T like Eli Stone, please comment and tell me so, because I'm sure you're a lurker who I don't know is stalking me.

This week's episode of Eli Stone is about (spoiler, and therefore omitted for you). But what I will tell you is that there is an uplifting/motivational theme that comes up from this week's client: "Live Brave."

I've been trying to think what living brave would mean for me. Does that means avoiding what society as a whole expects from me? Avoiding an easy road when there's a more difficult (and potentially more rewarding) path? Is it avoiding peer pressure? Avoiding family pressure?

Maybe it's finding ways to stand up for myself and others. Maybe it's volunteering. My parents served dinner at the homeless shelter in Ocala recently. Is that living brave? Or just living? What about when my friends go on mission trips to New Orleans? Haiti? Cuba? China? Are these brave, or just good? (Note: I like "good" too, I also watch Oprah's Big Give show.)

What do I do bravely?

The last time I remember feeling brave was when I lived in Philadelphia before law school. I felt decidedly brave taking public transportation for the first time. It was invigorating to know that I was no longer limited to my neighborhood. There was an actual shift in my mindset, I felt like there was very little I couldn't do if I set my mind to it.

I haven't felt like that lately. I feel very confined to my couch, to be honest. I can't wait to visit Seattle next month, I feel like that will be very invigorating. I'm comfortable here, but maybe life isn't best lived comfortably.

Maybe it's best lived bravely.

What makes you feel brave?

I like your blog because I think you always find ways to turn what other find un-exciting into an enjoyable read. I still think the baseball metaphor blog is one of the funniest things I've ever read. Honest to blog! (Sorry, I'm pysched for the release of Juno on DVD.)

I think it's crazy sometimes how much you and I have in common. Are you living in Naples all summer? I'm thinking about doing this in July : www.globalvolunteer.org

Hey girl,
You made me think today what is brave, so I looked it up. lol:)
brave- courageous, to meet boldly, to defy, to face it out.
So to answer your question---I think you do live bravely in alot of aspects. You face things that make you feel uncompfortable--such as little people. That in itself is an act of bravery.
I also think keeping the outlook you have is quite the act of bravery as well. I am not the eliquent writer you but I still give it a try. Is that brave?? I think so. lol.

I think you know what living bravely is for me. It's loving blindly, leaping fully, and leaving pre-conceived notions of who I am behind.

Living bravely doesn't always bring automatic happiness, despite what Oprah and Lifetime movies would have you think.

I'm really glad that you're going to be here in Seattle and you'll have a chance to live bravely out here since I'll be working the entire week you're here.

Sorry.

Hmm, living bravely. It's an interesting concept... Sometimes I think it's actually living OUTSIDE of your comfort zone. Doing something different and not the ordinary for yourself. Trying something different ~ like, going to Hong Kong and trying chicken's feet for the first time (though I admit, you're not missing much if you don't try it.) Attempting something even though you know you suck at it (been there, done this, too), but enjoying it, because honestly, it's a lot of fun! Spontaneous, spur of the moment trips in which there is no destination, just a desire to get away (hence, you need to move to Naples, as I might get the urge to do this.. ha!)

Sometimes, living life, day to day, not knowing what tomorrow brings, is living bravely all in itself. Joie di vie!
