The case for the alternate ending.

Have you seen the movie Clue? The one with three different, equally plausible endings? The one that ends...and then puts up on the screen some version of "Or it could have happened like this"?

It's a classic. I know this mostly because my friend Chrissy is obsessed with the movie and I've watched it with her several times. But here is my thought: Why don't more movies or tv shows take advantage of this idea? Why don't we have alternate storylines for more stories?

Sometimes shows are amazing, but get confined by one or two production decisions and then we're starting a sixth season that fans are not thrilled about. Example? Bones.

Y'all probably know how much I love this show. An unhealthy amount. But even as a diehard fan, I've lately come to realize that they really missed the moment when they could have put the leads together. They forced Brennan into a rigid persona for so many years, that she can't naturally progress into a relationship with Booth. Ever. Even if the show ran twenty years.

BUT...what if they shifted the timeline? What if we get a black screen saying "or it could have happened this way..." and we went back to Hodgins and Angela's aborted wedding several seasons ago and progressed from there? Zach would never turn insane. Booth and Brennan could stop being lame, start sleeping together, and go back to the cheerful banter that permeated the first three seasons. We can skip all this angst. We can regain the rhythm that we lost when Booth got all lovelorn over Brennan.

Sure, producers hate putting the leads together because you lose the UST. But seriously, if you can't write interesting storylines for people in relationships then you aren't a good writer. Because relationships are ridiculously complicated.

I've already read the spoilers. We're not getting a reset button on Bones. But wouldn't that be great? What show would you reset, and to what point in the show's timeline?

You need to watch Fringe...it is one of those shows that has taken complete advantage of alternative endings. Hope you come to scrap tomorrow!

I pretty much hate what happened on GG. Why did Lorelei have to marry Chris? So dumb. I never got to see a Luke and Lorelei wedding.

The writing went to crap during the 7th season when the show's creators left. Glad they didn't drag it out past that.
