It is now the 15th, so as you finish reading People of the Book feel free to post your comments or thoughts. Starting point: Did you have a favorite chapter/time period? I'll post my thoughts sometime this weekend, I'm in classes all day today.
Meanwhile, book two will be (per Ashley's suggestion): Cleopatra's Daughter. I've just requested it from my library, hope you will do the same! We'll start chatting about this one on February 1st (be warned that this is immediately after my little brother's wedding, so I may be a day or two late with the posting)...
Keep suggestions coming for next month!

i only have a few minutes as my pears are currently enjoying a hot water bath and i'll need to go rescue them in a minute. my favorite time period was the last flashback, when you found out the origins of the paintings. it made everything become cohesive for me and i like that you're not totally sure what happened to Z. did she just leave poor, blind benjamin alone to find her lost lover or was she taken and sold back into slavery? i also liked that i really felt like i knew what gender she was until the truth was revealed to the characters and the readers at the same time.
I REALLY liked this book. I think one of the things I liked most about it is that it offered a glimpse of so many different 'lives' (or eras) that I know nothing about.
Sometimes I was a little frustrated that the author kept so much veiled, extending whole paragraphs just to have some momentum for a last-sentence reveal. But I did love the moment we learn that the priest is Jewish by birth!
And I did like the Australian seed at the end - it's fun to think that though the book is over, the haggadah's story isn't.
The voice that struck me the most was Lola - maybe because hers was familiar in a way. It seems to me that the past 10 years or so have brought to life quite a variety of accounts of Jews who somehow evaded the Nazis - not to mention the new Anne Frank biography.
Also...congrats Doug! And I'm sure a delay will be fine - Cleo's Daughter doesn't exactly look like a quick read (although I've read a number of reviewers who said they couldn't put it down, despite the length).
I was looking forward to reading this book, but I've been preocuppied as of late. Hope to read the next one.
Ok, am not going to be able to read the next book b/c of grad school apps, so fingers crossed that I'll finish them soon and be able to read book 3! Hope you're having fun at the wedding.
