'Lection Day

Hello my civic-minded friends who understand the importance of having your vote counted! I know many of you voted early, and HUGE kudos to you for getting it off your to-do list. I, being the typical American who procrastinates until well after due dates on most projects, did NOT vote early. Hence, the following scenario:

6:11:00 a.m.: Alarm rings.
6:11:04 a.m.: Hit Snooze button.
6:21:00 a.m.: Alarm rings again.
6:21:08 a.m.: Turn off alarm and try to stand up. Fall back into bed. Roll off the bed to force myself to get up.
6:23 a.m.: Start shower.
6:31 a.m.: Leave the house with wet hair and crappy clothes on.
6:37 a.m.: Get in line to vote.
6:41 a.m.: It starts to drizzle. I have no umbrella, and thus am very thankful I didn't bother to blow dry my hair before voting.
6:46 a.m.: Security/Fire alarm goes off at my precinct.
6:51 a.m.: They let us stand inside the building to get away from the alarm noise.
6:59 a.m.: The crowd starts a countdown, New Years Eve style.
7:00 a.m.: Voting begins!!!!!
7:02 a.m.: I receive my ballot.
7:06 a.m.: I am back in my car.
7:11 a.m.: I am home blow-drying my hair.

I feel very "at-one" with the country now. I'm even wearing appropriate clothes today- I'm wearing a Target July-4th-Special shirt (it says lifelibertyhappiness in red, white, and blue sparkles!) and my "I voted" sticker.

I'll be watching returns tonight with friends at TWO parties. Law school students are nerdy-cute about this kind of thing. Hope you all have fun plans as well!

PS- I will NOT tell you how to vote, because I think it's important to vote your own conscience. I will never hold it against you if we disagree on a position. I will tell you all, however, that I personally voted for the following because I find them important:

- I voted AGAINST all of the Constitutional Amendments, because I think the legislature should be responsible for legislation instead of the general public. I don't like cluttering up our Constitution with silly things.

- Most particularly, I voted against Amendment 2 that makes it illegal to recognize any same sex relationship as a marriage or a substantial equivalent thereof. I think it makes sense to recognize that people love who they love, and I think it's silly to penalize them because we make different decisions for our own lives.

- I voted FOR both taxes in Alachua County- one for school programs and one for environmental parks and recreation areas (wild spaces, public places). I can afford the extra little bit (as can pretty much everyone) and I think it's important to keep our parks, wildlife preserves, and school art programs.

Happy election day!!!!

I voted for the first time in a presidential election this year! Woohoo! I sent in my out-of-state ballot about a month ago to make sure it made it there in time to be counted.

To be honest, I love election day. I love waiting up all night long and hearing each state's votes come in. :)
